LOCATION
“We hosted our playground sessions on the neighborhood playgrounds where the majority of our under-resourced students live. One apartment complex achieved 100% gold medals!”
“Parents volunteered to host review sessions in their neighborhood park. This way the kids could always walk to study session, even if they were bussed to school.”
“We received special permission to open the computer room. Once a child had completed their workbook pages, they could go inside and play and educational game.”
TEACHING STAFF
“Teachers volunteered to sign up for one or two study sessions last summer. They loved catching up with the kids for a quick hour over the summer and it really motivated the kids to come and get their books done.”
“Our principal offered a stipend to an ESL teacher for 2 hours per week. The teacher went every week to the playground at the largely Spanish apartment complex and worked with the kids. All of her students completed their books and earned gold medals.”
SUMMER PARTNERS
“We donated books to all of our local community centers to make sure that it was not just our students who felt like they had to work over the summer.”
“The partnered with the Title I teacher to enhance our study sessions. We combined her plans to host summer book exchanges as well as summer ice cream gatherings with our summer study sessions. This let us touch base with our under served kids much more frequently.”
